China is known for their tourist traps. But I would like to highlight this one in Beijing- a developed part of China. It was apparently a tourist attraction- The Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. My friend and I were separated and taken into different rooms where we were told that there would be a free consultation. The physician took my pulse and told me that I had a bad liver. I needed to purchase these bottle of miracle pills. I would see then see the effect in 2 weeks time. After awhile, my friend and my other tour mates came out. We realised that we ALL had the same liver problem! I came back to Singapore and got the pills tested. Apparently they were just normal vitamin pills.

[ 0 ]The so-called high grade pearls or gems that you see in shops can actually be bargained to 1/10 of the price tag. Normally Singaporean get very excited when we can get 50% off so just be aware. It is almost impossible to get perfectly matched pearls.

Fake Stones
[ 1 ]Be careful when buying stones and jewellery from Factory in China, they tell the same story everytime when a bus load of tourists are brought there. 'U are lucky today our Boss in the factory, you can get very good discount 80 to 90%, if you ignore they can let go any stones @S$50. We experienced this once in Beijing and the same trick in Hainan Island when we joined their local tour. In the group, I met a local couple told us to be careful, they have been telling the tourists the same story, she has been cheated earlier, once when they first time brought friends from Canada, They will separate locals and tourists before they start their nonsense. We got the namecards - same group, the bosses same first and second name only last name is different - maybe they are family.
