Must-dos in Portugal
Explore the Peneda-Geres National Park, which has dramatic views of the mountain, waterfalls and exotic flora and fauna not commonly found elsewhere. Look out in the area for old stone villages, which represent the cultural history of the place.
Visit the mediaeval Alfama district for the old-fashioned trams that wind their way through ancient streets. The city sits right on top of the Lisbon hills, offering panoramic views of Portugal.
The southern coast of Algarve is also not to be missed. It is famous for its beaches and amazing cliff backdrops. Aside from engaging in water sports, go horse-riding and eat at the waterside seafood restaurants - try the fresh bass, cockles, shrimp and mussels that the region is famous for.
The gastronomically adventurous will want to try the wide range of cheese that includes those made from the milk of goats and sheep.
