I have trekked 3 times on Mt. Fuji and really enjoyed it. I wish if I can go there for trekking again. Another recommendation is Mr. Ishiduchi in the Shikoku region.

The Kunisaki Buddhist Trek in Kyushu is an eight-day trail through the mountains of the Kunisaki peninsula. Be prepared for steep climbs along ancient trails that monks used to take, passing through hamlets, stone Buddha statues and caves.

For US$2,840 (S$3,999), the package includes accommodation ranging from hotels in the city to Japanese inns with thermal spring baths and a night at a temple. A less arduous alternative is The Summer Nakasendo Way tour along one of Japan's ancient highways, the Nakasendo, also known as 'the road through the mountains'. The scenic road, which snakes through the countryside and picturesque mountains of Japan's Central Alps, was once popular among feudal lords and merchants during the 17th century.

The 16km-long tour costs US$2,850 (S$4,013) and includes accommodation and most meals. For other treks, go to www.walkjapan.com
