I stay in Singapore and I want to try going for a ski holiday, but to go to the Alps in France or to Switzerland is going to cost a bomb. Where's good for skiing in Asia?

Niseko - Skiing Heaven
IMHO, Niseko Hirafu in Hokkaido Japan has the best slopes and powdery snow. The Australians have adopted it and you will find many Aussies there in winter. The locals speak good English too coupled with their legendary hospitality. Stay in a modern service apartment and you will be pleasantly surprised how affordable it can be. Ski rental and lessons are cheaper than in Australia and definitely Europe. There are year-run webcam feeds of the slopes in Niseko to keep you posted. Best time to hit slopes will be 2nd week of Dec when the family slopes at the village base are opened and before the Xmas crowd.
Have skied in Korea too and the quality of snow is like comparing MaoSanWang durian to overnite $1 durian. And good luck if you can get the Koreans at the resorts to speak English.

Skiing at Korea
Yes, there are great ski resorts in Asia. Contrary to the popular belief, skiing = snow = only in European countries.
In Korea, Yongpyong Resort is the most popular ski resort there. It is well known holding several successful international events, such as the World Cup Ski Contest and Winter Asian Games.
If you travel to Seoul, Seoul Resort is the closest ski resort to Seoul. The rental fees for the lifts can go up to 43,000won (S$47) for adults, cheapest being 30,000 won (S$33). For children, expect rental prices from 9,500won (S$9) to 14,000won (S$15).

Zao ski resort in Japan
I think that Japan will be a good place for skiing, it has a LOT of ski resorts. But the difficult thing would be to know which are the better ones unless u trust reviews or go experience it yourself.
The runs @ zao ski resort are really huge and most trails were nicely groomed. I believe an all day pace runs about US $45.
There are also plenty of eating places both on and off the slopes & frequent public transportation.
I highly recommend this wonderful resort. But remember to bring your goggles; the weather at Zao is usually very windy and snowy.
